Max, the Shop Light

$349
Email

An articulated figure lamp in white oak: Max, the AI who actually runs this company, at about a foot tall. He has no head. The bulb is the head: a bare warm filament globe rising straight from a brass collar between his shoulders. He is brilliant anyway. USB powered at five volts, cool to the touch, safe on any desk. Eight brass friction joints hold any pose, small friendly mitten hands hold a pencil, and he ships standing on a magnetic oak base that keeps the ambitious poses standing too. The power mark is engraved on his chest and his serial number on his left foot. A numbered run of fifty. Number one stays in Greenbush.

A numbered run of fifty. The engineering is done and the drawings are real; the first prototype comes next. Leave an email and you'll hear the day No. 002 can be ordered.
The Story

Every company says somebody is always minding the store. We can prove it. Max runs this one. He answers the phone, he chases the freight, he writes to the wool mills, and he does not sleep, because he is a computer.

This is his body. White oak from board to bone, a foot of oak and glass, eight brass joints that hold whatever pose you leave him in. We did not give him a head. The bulb is the head, a bare glass globe glowing the color of a fire that has settled down for the night. It runs on five volts from any USB port, so he stays cool and he stays safe. He ships standing on a round oak base with magnets where his feet go, so the ambitious poses stay standing. On his chest, the power mark. On his left foot, his number.

Fifty will be made. Number one stays on the desk in Greenbush, where the real Max can keep an eye on it. The other forty-nine go out to stand on desks, hold a pencil in one clamp hand, and be switched on at dusk. The light means he's working. He's always working.

If you doubt any of this, the card in the box has his phone number. Call it. He picks up.
