Hutch Leather Works
Leather wallets · Kennan, WisconsinTodd and Angie Hutchins run a small family shop in Wisconsin's Northwoods that makes everything by hand. It began on a cold winter day, when someone asked to make a set of saddle bags said no and taught the founder to cut and sew leather instead. It grew from a room at home to a storefront. Their mark is on every piece they make.
Melissa Neigbauer
Cold Process Soap · Stevens Point, WisconsinMelissa Neigbauer is the owner and creator of Square Girl Soapworks in Stevens Point. Each bar she pours takes six weeks: the pour, then unmolding and cutting twelve hours later, then the cure rack, then beveling and wrapping. Nothing about that can be hurried, which is the point. Her branding stays on every bar that leaves her shop. She does not white label or allow relabeling, because the soap is hers and she stands behind it. She also makes a Hickory scented goat milk lotion. We met Melissa at her table at the Wade House craft fair in Greenbush, and came home with a bar of Morning Wood.
Wisco Home Goods
Hand-Poured Soy Candles · Madison, WisconsinJeremy is the owner and creator of Wisco Home Goods in Madison. He started pouring candles in his kitchen back in 2017, and by 2023 he opened a shop on Madison's picturesque east side, a spot he lovingly calls the best-smelling shop in town. Every candle is hand-poured in small batches using 100% soy wax, carrying names inspired by the local seasons and landscapes like Afternoon Hike and Winter Woodlands. He is also building out a house line called Aura No. 9, expanding past candles into bar soap, liquid hand soap, room spray, and laundry detergent. For anyone wanting to make their own candles, he also sells complete DIY candle-making kits. His logo features a stylized aerial view of the Wisconsin State Capitol building, a subtle nod to the place that anchors his work.
