A magnetic map of the United States in antique tan, in a wood frame, made by Driftless Studios in Westby, Wisconsin. States get marked as you actually get to them, which is a slower and more honest record than a phone full of photographs. Frame dimensions, magnet count, and hanging hardware are confirmed against the piece in hand before this goes on sale.
There is a particular kind of lie a map tells when you buy it, which is that you are the sort of person who is going to fill it in. Most of them get hung, admired, and then quietly ignored somewhere around the third state.
This one is harder to ignore because marking it is a physical act. A magnet goes on, in front of whoever is in the room, and the gap where Nebraska should be develops opinions of its own. Made a few hours west of us in Westby by a small Wisconsin shop, which is the other reason it is here: a map of the country made in the part of it we are from.
