November 3, 1957
November 3, 1957. Sputnik 2 carried a dog named Laika, the first animal to orbit the Earth. No way home was built for her. The cabin overheated and she lived only a few hours. That is the plain truth of how early it was. In August 1960 two dogs, Belka and Strelka, came home alive.
