Why an Ultra Runner Started a Furniture Company

People ask how a decade of trail ultras leads to a furniture company and the honest answer is: it doesn't, directly. Nothing about running twenty-nine hours at Western States teaches you about kiln-drying suar wood. What it teaches you is how to pay attention on the way to somewhere else.
You spend enough hours moving through the woods and you start noticing the same thing over and over: the best-made objects out there are rarely the ones for sale. They're the aid station table somebody's uncle built, the trekking pole a stranger carved and wouldn't sell you. That noticing is the whole business model. We just decided to write it down and put a price tag on it.
Full origin story, races and all, is on our About page. This is the short version: run enough miles, and eventually you stop looking at your watch and start looking at what people built.
